This former holiday home was extensively altered and extended to improve the architectural quality of the dwelling whilst transforming it into a modern family home. The overall footprint was increased through the construction of a new double storey extension to the south west corner of the site. This extension exploits the change in level across the site and is angled off the existing geometry to maximize the evening sunlight. Connecting to the existing dwelling via a full height minimalist glass corridor a split staircase leads to two new levels accessed from the main open plan living area. At both levels, large glass openings maximize the panoramic views across the Firth of Clyde to the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig. At lower ground floor a new sun room is formed with a direct link to the outside deck and a master suite and terrace is formed at the upper ground level. Through the use of a limited palette of materials, the extension blends seamlessly with the existing upgraded structure and reads as completely new contemporary dwelling.
