Set amongst pasture land on the outskirts of Eaglesham, this traditional stone stable / tractor shed forms one side of a courtyard which links to the main farm house and additional stable block. Broadly linear in plan, the outbuilding required extensive refurbishment and conversion for further living accommodation separate from the main farm house.
The existing sub division of the plan is carved up to create flowing sequences of rooms and spaces that offer varied relationships to natural light, courtyard and open fields, exposure and protection. As part of the brief, a new entrance is created away from the courtyard providing the building with its own identity. This entrance is extended to create a new open plan dining area/sun room which offers views across the open pasture. Designed as a solid mass, this contemporary addition is cloaked entirely in anthracite zinc with new openings puncturing through the surface.
