Due to an expanding family this modest semi-detached house was extended to incorporate a new multi-purpose family room. To avoid the garden being overwhelmed with an extended footprint the extension was conceived more as a garden pavilion. Glass and timber cladding are used extensively and the structure is designed to sit lightly on the ground. Internally the existing change in level between the house and garden is overcome by introducing steps within the depth of the existing external wall, allowing a direct connection with the garden. In addition the garage is partially removed to create garden storage and is clad in timber to soften the impact.
